The expert points out that the recent problems presented by Uber may further expand the market. “An example of this is the giant Didi Chuxing buying control of the taxi application 99. The investment marks a significant step in the execution of Didi's global strategy”, highlights the professor at FGV.
André Miceli is also betting on the trend of an increasing increase of users of this service in the country. “Young people were the first to download, now parents are using it and new users are expected to emerge. The same happens with cities, first it was the capitals, now smaller cities should receive the applications ”, he observes.
Regulation - The new rules for passenger transport by application that came into force in the city of São Paulo, according to Miceli, may become a case law in other cities. He warns that this process may discourage the entry of new drivers or even the departure of some. "With that, we will have less supply, so prices can rise," he believes.
Now, at a difficult time for the sector in terms of regulation, the FGV professor is creating an increasingly competitive environment with the presence of other big names like Cabify. For Miceli, Uber seems to face yet another challenge. “There may be applications specific to certain niches. Like the one that will only transport women, the luxury one and even the applications of taxi cooperatives ”, he says.
Uber - Uber's situation in Brazil, according to Miceli, is different from that seen in other countries where the app transport market is strong. “In China, for example, Uber faced years of difficulties before giving up on the market, selling its operations to Didi itself. In Russia, there was a similar movement, but the merger took place with Yandex, the largest company in the industry there ”, recalls André Miceli.
